LSUA to offer medical technology degree

LSU AlexandriaMedical technologists working in the Alexandria area with a two-year college certificate and students who want to go into the profession soon could earn a full-fledged college degree.

The Board of Regents Wednesday granted conditional approval for Louisiana State University at Alexandria to begin offering a bachelor of science in medical technology degree.

The Regents staff said the degree will be helpful for technologists seeking employment and advancement. A degree is necessary for employment at some medical facilities and veterans’ hospitals.

Most of the coursework will be offered online in a distance learning program so students, including technologists currently employed, can complete the degree at home.
