Office of Vice President for Communications and External Affairs

The Office of Vice President for Communications and External Affairs reports directly to the System President and the LSU Board of Supervisors, serving as the primary spokesperson for the LSU System to local, state and national media. The Office of Vice President for Communications and External Affairs is responsible for:

Coordinating communication efforts and strategy among system campuses and hospitals
Serving as a communications liaison to other System offices, including Governmental Relations, Academic Affairs, the Senior Executive Vice President for Administration and Finance and the General Counsel
Managing media strategy and analysis for the System office, System President and Board

Governmental Relations

LSU System Governmental Relations oversees interaction between local, state and federal government and the LSU System. Governmental Relations personnel at the System and individual institutions statewide provide information to the President and Chancellors, regarding legislative initiatives, and assist the President and Chancellors in the development of federal and state legislative priorities each year.

Emergency Management

LSU System Emergency Management is dedicated to helping LSU institutions prepare for, respond to, recover from and reduce the impact of potential, intentional, accidental or natural disasters. Primary responsibility for preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation rests with each of LSU’s 11 individual institutions. The System office fosters partnerships with outside agencies in the areas of emergency response, management, and training and monitors the execution of separate campus emergency operations.
