Statement from Dr. John Lombardi, LSU System President, on the nomination today of four independent board members for the new UMC in New Orleans

BATON ROUGE – Mar. 2, 2010 – LSU is delighted that the Governor and his Administration continue with their strong support of the University Medical Center for the New Orleans region by nominating the four independent board members to become part of the UMC's not-for-profit corporation board.

The recent court victory against FEMA allows us to move forward to identify the financing structure, which is the next step in the process of affiliating a non-profit corporation with LSU and the UMC.

This indication of continued state support provides yet another testimony to all of our commitment to the process outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding. LSU will identify its members for the affiliated corporation's board at the time the state approves the required cooperative endeavor agreement and the financing proposal is ready for consideration by the corporation board.  Obviously, the critical element in this process is the financing piece, which is now the highest priority through the state's Request for Proposals process.
