Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA) is a public regional four-year university that primarily serves Central Louisiana and awards bachelor and associate degrees. The University has earned a reputation for providing a high quality, broad-based undergraduate education to traditional first-time college students and aspiring adult learners.
Located in the most underserved region of Louisiana as evidenced by the State’s lowest bachelor and associate degree attainment levels, LSUA serves the student who is likely to be place-bound, the first in one’s family to attend college, and who has significant financial challenges.
The University’s undergraduate core curriculum prepares students for a lifetime of learning and the majors serve a variety of private and public entities in education, healthcare, natural resources, law enforcement, light manufacturing, and logistics and transportation.
LSUA is committed to providing regional access to high quality undergraduate education. Faculty at LSUA teach undergraduate students, pursue scholarship that informs their teaching, serve as advisors, supervise independent projects, engage undergraduates in research, and invite students to participate in advanced studies and fieldwork. The University’s general education curriculum establishes a firm foundation of critical thinking, clear expression and global awareness. Students can select from a variety of majors including Allied Health, Biology, Business Administration, Communication Studies, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, English, History, Mathematics, Nursing, Psychology, the Bachelor of General Studies, and the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (Theater). LSUA offers students in Central Louisiana a comprehensive college experience. Student apartments on campus are a short walk to the James C. Bolton Library, Academic Advising Center, Fitness Center and the Student Center.

This multipurpose campus provides educational and cultural leadership, educational excellence and resources necessary to assist the community to meet its cultural and economic development needs. Besides its primary campus south of Alexandria, LSUA operates and offers classes at the Business Education Center in the Central Louisiana Business Incubator, offers coursework and allied health training at the Allied Health Building in downtown Alexandria, and with its partner, the LSUA Foundation, operates and offers classes at the Alexandria Museum of Art. LSUA, through its offerings, features and locations meets regional higher education demands and produces diverse and well-prepared graduates who are committed to contribute to their communities.
Louisiana State University at Alexandria is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. LSUA is currently categorized as a SREB Two-Year with Bachelor’s institution, as a Carnegie Associate’s Dominant, and as a COC/SACS Level II institution. LSUA is located in Region VI.
