New program at LSUS to help movie industry

Officials at LSU-Shreveport will announce today the specifics of a new certificate program that will create a qualified work force for the local film industry.

Officials at the animation and visual arts program have created a one-year certificate program that will be taught by industry leaders. The graduates of this program will be wanted by local studios such as Millennium and Moonbot.

“We’re trying to develop the best possible work force quickly,” said John Miralles, director of the animation and visual effects program at LSUS.

The announcement will be at 11 a.m. today in room 258 in the Technology Center at LSUS.

The program would be the equivalent of other such programs that cost about $46,000, Miralles said. LSUS’ program will cost $12,000; however, a monetary award from the Caddo Parish Commissioners will serve as scholarships making it nearly free for the participants.
